Remember in math class when the teacher would talk about the order of operations? It was a guideline for which part of a complex equation you should tackle first. When dealing with any complex issue, having an order for operating can be helpful. When tackling the complex issue of planning your wedding, it can help to have a guide for where to start and what to do next.
Decide to get married.
Decide if you will elope or have a wedding.
Tell people. If you aren’t planning on eloping, then you will probably want to share the news with friends and family. If you are planning to elope, then you will probably share this news after the deed is done.
Pre-planning. You and your spouse should sit down together to talk about what sort of a wedding you want, a rough idea of when you want to have that wedding, and what sort of budget you have to work with. How big will your wedding be? Are there people who might be able to help out? This is also a good time to talk about the guest list.
Get organized. This usually involves getting a notebook or binder of some sort. You will want something with pockets in which you can keep receipts and a calendar.
Find a venue.
Hire vendors. This may include caterers, florists, photographers, DJ, etc. Don’t forget to find an officiant. If you are going the DIY route you may not need a bunch of vendors. The simpler, the better. But that is something to figure out during the planning phase. Depending on how DIY you want to go, this might be a list of friends and family who have agreed to help out rather than vendors.
Choose your attendants. (You don't have to have any. You can go super-simple and just have you and your Boo.)
Buy a dress. (Wedding clothes. Whatever.)
Send out invitations. Do this six-to-eight weeks before the wedding.
Review. A week or so before the wedding, make sure to go over your checklists and check back in with anyone who is involved just to confirm you are all set. If everything looks good, you have a couple of days to just relax before the big day.
Get Married.
